CES 2008: Pretec Sets New CF Storage Record with 48GB Card Strange thing, just a few days after Apple released their state-of-the-art, ultra-portable MacBook Air, Lenovo's lightweight approach at the mobile world gets leaked onto the web. Lenovo has been increasingly
aggressive on the mobile world lately with its Snowmountain Y410, ThinkPad X61, and the IdeaPad Y510, but thinking that they can compete with a Mac OS X notebook seems to be a little far-fetched.
The leaked notebook is called ThinkPad X300, an ultra-portable PC powered by a Merom-based 2.0GHz "Dual Core Hybrid LV" processor with a 12W thermal design power. Since it is labeled as "hybrid", it is assumed that it might be close to the special version of the Core 2 Duo that Intel crafted for Apple's MacBook Air.
According to the leaked specifications, Lenovo's ThinkPad comes with a 13.3", 1440x900 LED backlit display, two DIMM slots that allow for a maximum of 4GB of DDR2 memory, fingerprint biometric security module, touchpad and trackpoint inputs, as well as a built-in webcam. Unlike the common ultra-mobile PCs on the market, the laptop comes with a fully-fledged keyboard for comfortable and efficient typing.
The laptop is not cheap on connectivity either. It offers almost every option a picky user might imagine. The X300 is rigged with three USB 2.0 ports, three internal PCI-Express slots, Firewire, 4-in-1 SD card reader, the brand-new DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet and an ExpressCard slot. The wireless options are wide and include Bluetooth, 802.11n, Verizon EV-DO Rev A, Cingular HSDPA and WiMAX connectivity.
Those who find this too good to be true will find satisfaction in the sole weak spot in the whole notebook. Lenovo offers a single internal storage option that may provide both inefficient and expensive: a 64GB solid state disk (SSD). The current technical specs don't mention any hard-disk drive option, but there must be one, since a 64 GB SSD device will add some heavy load of cash to its price tag. The good news is that the notebook comes with an internal DVD burner.
I have previously told you about the laptop's ultra-portability. The whole load of components is stuffed into an elegant casing measuring 12.5" x 22.86 x 1.85 - 2.33 centimeter frame that only weighs 1.13 kilograms, including a 3-cell battery. Pricing and availability for the notebook are still undisclosed.
