Intel X48 Nail to Launch on March

Written by IT News on 4:19 AM

Intel successor to the very popular X38 chipset will be on the market within a month. The new chipset has been postponed for some time now for reasons of different reasons. Rumor has it that . The chip has been sidelined because of the motherboard manufacturers that have put pressure on Intel to give them time to get rid of stock X38. However, it appears that some problems with the FSB support for the next four QX9770 processor cores.

Intel issued a note to all its technology partners who officially confirmed the mid-March launch date. The specifications of the chipset are not new, since the high-level motherboard manufacturers, such as Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI), have already detailed their products, and, by implication, the capabilities of the new chipset.

The X48 is a smart incremental update to the previous X38, and therefore, it will only make incremental progress on the latter. In addition, recently fled benchmarking results show that the two chipsets are fairly similar in terms of performance. The only value, citing more is the fact that the chipset now fully supports the 1600MHz FSB speed for the next Penryn quad-core processors.

The launch date has been set for the month of March, and that date has not been chosen at random by Intel. It coincides with another important event, the launch of the AMD repaired and refurbished Phenom quad-core processors. Before jumping on the fact that the chipset can not compete with a processor, let me tell you that the X48 will be joined by Intel's 45-nanometer Core 2 Extreme QX9770 CPU, which makes all the difference.

The launch will steal all Phenom glory and the alleged desire to minimize its importance in the marketplace. At the same time, it will allow motherboard manufacturers release their new offerings based on X48 that must have piled up in their warehouses. Although they were prepared for a long time, motherboards are not allowed to be shipped prior to the official launch of the chipset they are based on.
