And the more casual players can dress up to look friendly ", Even if the developers looked at how MIIS was integrated with the Nintendo Wii games as a source of inspiration. Microsoft is not designed to integrate avatars directly in most video games, but they believe that avatars to increase the social potential of consoles.

Nintendo Dominates Japanese Games Market

Written by IT News on 8:39 AM

Enterbrain, the company, which specializes in analysis and technology in the Japanese software market, released its findings related to the evolution of the video game market during the fiscal year that just ended March 30. While not mind-blowing figures and sow clearly sustainable growth.

Total sales of hardware games, including consoles and video games that have reached more than 667 billion yen, which is approximately 6.6 billion U.S, sporting a healthy 3.8 per cent after growth in the previous fiscal year. A breakdown of the figures reveals some surprises.

In the market, where power and graphics blockbuster game seemed to be the norm, the Japanese government prefers the Nintendo DS, with its touch screen capabilities and innovation, for more powerful PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. In the Nintendo DS boasts of 6343547 units it sold a year for a period of total sales estimated at 22169761. The number of units sold in 2007, nearly twice the number of its nearest competitor.

In Nintendo Wii was in second place with 3741946 units sold in the 2007 fiscal year and a lifetime total of 5695579, while the PlayStation Portable Sales 3427971 for a lifetime, a total of 8574026.

Speaking of Sony, PlayStation 3 at 1197418 units sold compared with the previous year, while the PlayStation 2 sales numbers have not been made public. Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold only 235318, and only about 600000 sold in Japan since the console launched.

Wii exceeded the size of Nintendo software sales chart, registering more than 1700000 units sold, even though it was released in December. Close on the heels were books Nintendo DS and Mario Party Wii sports. SuperSmash Bros. Brawl took fourth place with a little more than 1 million people, and half of sales, followed by Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 on the Nintendo DS.

So it seems that Nintendo has been dominating Japan in fiscal year 2007, as hardware and the software market. The question is if it can keep him in 2008.

CES 2008: Toshiba Introduces a Super TV Based on PlayStation 3 Cell Processor

Toshiba's got new goodies coming for the folks with their attention focused on CES 2008 these days and among them, the famous company included the successor to the acclaimed HD TV. This new TV brings next-gen to the world of high-tech electronics by incorporating the PS3's Cell processor. This uber chip was develop by Toshiba, in partnership with Sony and IBM and now it's being used in a great flat-panel
TV.

This TV produced by Toshiba uses the processing power to display up to 48 thumbnail versions of the available TV programs. Each of them can been in standard definition mode at the same time with the other 47, quite a performance for such an electronic device. Once you click on one of these thumbnails it will be displayed on the lower half of the screen, while the rest will show about 16 thumbnails with the rest of the programs. Yet another click on the bottom half screen makes it go fullscreen and it's here where the uber-HD experience begins!

In case you're interested this "baby" can render six streams at the same time, all of them displaying HD video, according to Hiroaki Komaki, Toshiba spokesperson. The Cell processor once again comes into play allowing a more powerful upscalling and a nicer zooming, without the usual loss of quality. This sounds like a dream for a PS3 or Xbox 360 owner, plus the ones who want to watch porn in true HD. Seems that consoles have far more power than we could have imagined and it pains us to even think of the full potential of the PS3 in 10 years or so...

Picture a hacker and madman teaming up and using the Cell processor for military weaponry... Sometimes too much calculus power can be the source of all evil.
