Women in India to be recognized
By: Vlad Constandes, SEO News Editor | softpedia.com
Many women have come up with wonderful inventions throughout the history and mythology, but their work was recognized way too rarely. Google decided to set things straight and launched in December its India "Women in Engineering Award." It decided to let the whole world know about it now on the Official Google Blog, because the last day for applying is drawing near and it looks like the project is a success already, judging by the number of applicants.
"In its inception year, we have extended this award
to recognized engineering schools across India; it is open to any woman student in computer science engineering who meets the application criteria. This initiative has been received positively, as has been indicated by the inundating queries and subsequent applications. The last date for applying is January 31st and we are looking forward to hearing from even more applicants."
The winners of the contest will be announced after almost a month, on February the 29th, and they will be promoted as such and honored at the Google engineering office in Bangalore. Keynotes, panel discussions, tech talks and breakouts will be included around the award ceremony in the first week of March, so the victors will get to see the way a real company functions up close for a good period of time.
Google is keen on trying to create within its ranks a workforce that reflects the diversity of the customers' perspectives, ideas and cultures," as Manoj Varghese, the Human Resources director for Google India noted on the blog. That means that they are trying to re-create the world again within the company, if that isn’t too bold of a comparison. With the award the Mountain View based company hopes to encourage the young to look at computer science engineering a second time in case they overlooked it because this is the future.
