They are part of the 8800GT lineup, but they come with the hottest technology

Gigabyte has just announced the availability of two brand-new graphics cards powered by Nvidia's GeForce 8800GT graphics processor. The two new products will join a vast offering of 8800GT-enabled video cards and will surely trigger the "Why some more?" question.

The two cards are quite different, although the are powered by the same GPU, and it is not just in their looks. Both the GV-NX88T512HP and the GV-NX88T256H feature a new cooling solution, with copper fins and two heatpipes. On top of the copper monolith, there is a pretty large fan that can dissipate a considerable amount of heat. This lets us know that the new cards are dual slot, but at the same time, if you expect a quite working environment' you'd rather re-consider your options.

Another significant change when compared to the previous models is the four-phase PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), a technology that is used to reduce the total amount of delivered power. These two cards are the first ones from Gigabyte to feature their new DES (Dynamic Energy Save) technology, that allows the cards to use less power when they are not under full load, similar to an engine gearbox.

That is quite impressive, but there are more surprises added to these video cards. A closer look to the graphics cards' PCB reveals a small brown/gold chip, that has the right size and shape to be identified as a VGO (Voltage Gear Overdrive) chip. This technology is part of the company's new offering of video cards with extreme overclocking capabilities.

The GamerHUD addition completes the puzzle and lets the user overclock the card and tweak its voltage from a windows-based software application. The voltage is not the only customizable aspect: GamerHUD also allows for GPU, the Shaders and memory overclocking within the same utility.

Moreover, the GamerHUD allows the selection between the 2D power saving mode and 3D mode. The only difference between the video cards is that the GV-NX88T512HP comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory, while the GV-NX88T256H only sports 256 MB.
