Firefox Users Less Likely to Fall for Porn Scams

Experts agree on that

A while ago there was a supposedly "viral" advertising campaign against Microsoft’s Internet Explorer series, created by Mozilla, that claimed to have better and more tech savvy users for its Firefox browser than the competition. Dissed at the time for the way it was presented, there is still some truth to that, as DriveSentry’s John Safa came to acknowledge.

He told Web User that people using Firefox are "more aware of anything that was not the norm," thus being a lot more careful with the applications they install and the content they download. The most common method that ill-intended individuals use is to trick the unwary users into installing the malware themselves, claiming it to be some sort of media applications that help them reach faster the content they are seeking. And with porn being all over the Internet, there’s a high chance for it to be the target.

There have been cases that, after such a download, the PC would crash and not be usable unless owners paid a certain sum of money, as prompted by the program that found its way onto the hard drive. And it’s not difficult to fall for such a devious scheme, especially if you’re not at all tech savvy, most often than not there’s a pop-up that glitters and shines, advising you that if you click the link in it, you’ll get unlimited free access to material or your download will go a whole lot faster. If you’re not sure about something, you’d better ask someone who is, or just ignore the "friendly advice" and do your thing the old way.

Firefox users have grown in numbers in the past years, bringing it in range to throw Internet Explorer a punch. With the help of the open sourcing community that is constantly working on improving the browser and its options, it will probably overtake the Microsoft giant in terms of numbers of users as the new generations come up and wary of all the security holes provided by the Redmond-based company.
