Aruba AP-105 access point offers support for 802.11n

With the recent ratification of the new 802.11n wireless networking as standard, a number of network solution has been decided to launch new, supportive products. This is the case with the Sunnyvale, California-based Aruba Networks, which recently announced the debut of its new compact, dual-radio AP-105 802.11n Access Point. Designed to a higher setting above the default connection to allow the AP-105 is said to deliver enterprise-grade security, while offering support for high-throughput, streaming video and other support functions for customers with high quality wireless networking solution.

"Although there was a technical challenge as much functionality in a compact and affordable access, we believe that by doing so has really differentiated Aruba AP-105 products to sell for up to twice the price," said Keerti Melkote, Aruba's founder and technical director. Measuring only 132mm x 135mm x 45mm, is the AP-105 is said to weigh only 300 grams and provides a compact solution for wireless networks that are looking to upgrade their networks to the latest 802.11n technology. Wireless USB Remote

We have recently brought you news about a product that was meant to capitalize on Father's Day, namely the ESPN's Ultimate Remote. It appears that there's yet another similar product that aims at providing media enthusiasts with a new remote control experience. This time around, the manufacturer is famous for its DVD and Blu-Ray product lineup, namely AMEX Digital.

The new remote, which goes by the name of RM-mp1, looks rather simple but is advertised to provide users with a number of significant features designed to improve the quality of their media experience. The remote can't be used for your regular TV set, but it provides all the media functions you will need, with support for computer systems. This is because RM-mp1 has been designed with a Wireless USB technology, rather than IR or a proprietary RF link. This technology allows the AMEX product to work as a media remote, a presentation controller and for general PC control.

The product's PC capability includes a built-in touchpad and mouse buttons, offering probably the same experience as any other notebook computer. The remote also provides a dedicated slideshow button, which can be used with presentations and photo galleries. At the bottom, the remote features a large Media Center/Start menu shortcut button. This will probably make movie watching on a PC, a lot more fun.

Other technical specifications include a single 3.7V battery, which can be charged via USB. AMEX Digital throws in even a Wireless USB dongle to link the remote with the computer, if the technology isn't available. The product is quite slim and at this point there's no word on price or availability. What is certain is that RM-mp1 will only work on Windows-enabled computers and will be available in black and white versions.

Apple's Time Capsule to Drive Users Mad

AirPort Extreme owners think that the Capsule is an insult

Apple's Time Capsule has been unveiled during the MacWorld Show & Expo earlier last week. As I have mentioned in a previous article, it is a device that can act either as a backup appliance, or as a printing server. More and more users who already have the AirPort Extreme feel they have been used by the big, bitten apple.

Apple's support forums have been invaded by some aggressive messages from Airport Extreme users. AirPort Extreme is a local area wireless networking router, very popular among the Mac users. The mentioned problems are related to the AirPort Extreme and its AirPort Disk feature, which allows users to attach an external USB drive to the router and access that disk via the wireless network.

The problems began showing up in October, when Apple launched Mac OS X 10.5. The company stated that Time Machine will be able to work with AirPort drives, but the feature was stripped down before the finalization of the Leopard operating system. Apple later admitted bluntly that Time Machine didn't support AirPort drives, and left the customers without any explanation.

The true problems started to emerge when Apple unveiled Time Capsule, a hardware appliance that integrates a wireless base station with a 500GB or even 1TB disk drive. People who had previously bought the AirPort Extreme felt offended and started complaining.

"I was one of the suckers to buy an [AirPort Extreme] and 500GB hard drive when Apple posted that Leopard would be the answer to the back-up problem," said a user identified as John Wolcott. "All you needed was [AirPort Extreme] and USB drive and Time Machine would do the rest. I believed them and look where that got me."

Some users jumped at Apple's neck for not having updated the AirPort Extreme to add Time Machine support, while some others complained about the company removing their complaints from the forums. "This Time Capsule thing is just adding insult to injury," argued Christopher Chang. "Please Apple, update Leopard and the AEBS [AirPort Extreme Base Station] firmware so I can do wireless backups with my MBP and AEBS. For the love of God."

Apple refuses to answer the customers' demands. Moreover, Steve Jobs confirmed that there will be further updates to a range of products, but the AirPort Extreme is not listed among those.
