Hitachi unveils new Ultrastar enterprise-ready HDDs

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, one of the world's largest suppliers of high-performance hard drives, today announced the extension of its range of Ultrastar drives for applications, Enterprise Storage announced. The company has only two new 15,000 RPM Ultrastar drives for Tier 0 / 1, business-critical enterprise storage applications, including C15K147, a 2.5-inch hard drive for the business market and the new Ultra Start 15K600, intended to deliver an impressive 600 GB of storage space and a choice of 6 Gb / s SAS and 4Gb / s Fiber Channel settled Loop (FCAL) interfaces.

According to Hitachi, the new 15K147 2.5-inch hard drive is designed for more than 70 percent efficiency compared to standard 3.5-inch hard drives. These new models are available in capacities of 73GB and 147GB, even with a 64 MB cache buffer, it boasts a 15,000 RPM speeds and is equipped with Hitachi's own Advanced Power Management technology.

Besides that, Hitachi units designed to meet the Trusted Computing Group Enterprise Security Subsystem Class A specification, the protection of data from the user. According to Hitachi, Ultra Start C15K147 and 15K600 shipping already in the channel and are accompanied by a period of five year warranty.
