Toshiba plans self-encrypting HDDs for 2010 release

Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD) recently announced that it intends to officially take the wrap from his latest self-propelled drive encryption technology in a demonstration with Wave Systems Trusted Drive Manager in the security-oriented RSA Conference 2009, from April 21 at Moscone Center in San Francisco, California . According to Toshiba, this new solution is designed to increase production early next year and users with a number of new technologies to improve protection for traditional hard drives.

Although no specific technical information on the upcoming Toshiba unit, stated that these new solutions will be available in the first quarter of next year. When launched, Toshiba new self-encrypting units will join the Seagate, which is currently a selection of 320 GB or 500 GB capacity encrypted hard drives up to 7200 rpm. In addition to Seagate, Samsung has also announced availability of its own coded SSDs, available in Dell laptops.
